The Trinity of Commerce

Today’s blog entry expresses an idea I had today about a holistic business model. One that may be the best way to do business. I believe in the Bible. I believe that God has spoken to mankind in His word. I believe that what I need to know about God is found in the Book.

I used to teach basic Christianity classes. One of the first doctrines we discussed was the Trinity. One of the first scriptures we would discuss was “Hear oh Israel the Lord your God is one” (Deuteronomy 6:4). Both in the Old Testament and the New Testament we learn about God’s nature including His triunity, or the Trinity. God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Through the Trinity we understand God’s work in the lives of humankind. The Father our creator, the Son our savior, and the Spirit who internalizes within us the power and reality of God’s work. It is through this one God in three Persons that we see the totality of God’s work.
I know I am taking a little liberty here, but there is a trinity of commerce. This trinity is made up of government, for profit, and not-for-profit organizations. It is through these three entities that we see economic and social progress. This triune relationship has become more important in modern times. Economic, social, and spiritual profit is closely related. With the complexity of the macroenvironment these three entities need to function in congruency not in opposition.
